Honors Chemistry – Fall 2014 Welcome

Welcome to Honors Chemistry 2014! I know you are interested in getting off to a good start and doing well in class. Below I have listed the materials necessary for class and a quick agenda of what we will be doing this week. As the week progresses and we have written assignments, I will add them here in case you lose your copy or are absent. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to email me at: kara.harris@cobbk12.org.

Materials for class:
2″-3″ three-ring binder with dividers for HW notes, CW, and Labs
notebook paper
pencils or dark-colored ink pens
scientific calculator

Agenda for the week:
Monday- Introduction, class expectations and procedures, and an activity that requires teamwork and imagination. ; )
Tuesday – We will develop a working scientific method and watch an episode of Mythbusters to identify the components of the scientific method in each of the myths tested.
Wednesday – Problem-based lesson – How Important is the Scientific Method Anyway? You will conduct a case study on why a lab notebook is necessary and the proper way to write a procedure for an experiment. One lucky student may even get to eat in class!
Thursday – It’s all about lab safety and the proper use of lab equipment!
Friday – Get ready for your first lab with “real” chemicals, don’t eat any please! We will be exploring the difference between a valid observation, a lazy observation, and an inference.
